Grass eating animals are called ruminants. They have a special four chambered stomach. The chamber are called rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum.these animanls while eating their food do no chew it first instead swallow it quickly. later at leisure they bring back the from the rumen to the mouth for chewing.this is called 'chewing the cud'. This is also called rumination.
In rumen and reticulum there are numerous micro oganisms that help in partial digestion of cellulose of plant materials. Now the food passes to omasum where water in the food is partially absorbed and finally the food reaches at abomasum which is equivalent to human stomach in funtion .
